July 2 - Independence Day of Bahia
On July 2, 1823, almost a year after Brazil's Proclamation of Independence (September 7, 1822), Brazilian troops marched into Salvador, following the retreat by night of the Portuguese on the previous day.
Yearly we commemorate this day with a festival staged at Campo Grande, the site where the monument to independence stands.
