Kouméa, Togo

 back to the overview

I traveled the regions of the Sombas und Tanguiétas, whose houses with watchtowers at their corners resembled fortresses. Their men wore only loincloths, and the Cabrais from the region of Kouméa refused to make use of even this piece of modest cloth. To balance off their complete nudity they wore straw hats. Their women had small, copper crucifixes between their breasts, and they all smoked pipes.
