A group of drummers had the honorary name of 'The Mexican Embassy'. Another was called 'The Sons of the Congo' and appeared complete with banner carriers, drummers, a king and queen, and even its own audience. Before passing through the streets of Bahia this carnival group made an offering to the African messenger of the gods, Exú *), so that all would go well.
